Happy National Caregiver's Day + BOGO Deal + a webinar offered on how to create a safe home for your loved one.
Hello Friends,
We enter the world dependent on care, and most likely we will leave the world needing care, and we’re fortunate if we don’t require it in between.
Caregiving is the thread that runs through this experience we call life.
We used to live more connected, more tribally. We knew our neighbors, and we depended on one another for survival and community. There wasn’t the space we have now to pretend like everything was ok because we were interconnected. Hardships were shared but so was joy.
Many of us, especially as 21st century Americans, live comfortable lives. We sanitize death and tuck it into convenient spaces like nursing homes or assisted living facilities. We have programs and tools for every sort of trauma imaginable, and we don’t have to hunt for our food or stand guard at night to protect our families.
However… I often wonder if our comfort has cost us something.
When we no longer need others to survive, it becomes easy to not know our neighbors or scroll past suffering, but we were designed for connection. Our humanity requires community because the truth is care is not weakness; it’s the attribute that makes us human.
Perhaps the invitation isn’t to pursue hardship but to instead pursue community. To truly see one another again and to leave space in our busy agendas to help, to serve, and to care. The bookends remind us that caregiving is a full circle life experience and that everything practiced in between is a barometer on how well we love. A barometer of how well we lived.
Happy National Caregiver’s Day.
Just keep livin.
xoxo
